Saint Faustinus and Saint Jovita with Virgin Mary and Christ child in 3-D anaglyph

Today, Feb. 15, is the feast of Saints Faustinus and Jovita, two brothers executed by Emperor Hadrian in 120 A.D. This painting by Vincenzo Foppa shows them standing beside the Virgin Mary and Christ child. A great study in perspective, it was fun to convert to 3-D. Walls, canopies, pedestals, columns, windows, with all those angles and planes converging this way and that. (You can see it even bigger on my Flickr page.)

A Sad Predicament

This man was enjoying a denuded swim in a secluded pond, only to find to his horror that some picnickers had arrived whilst he was occupied in this pastime. Now he must hide his shame behind yon rushes until the gentlefolk depart.

A stereograph published in 1900 by the Keystone View Company of Meadville, Pa., which I converted to red/cyan anaglyph. From the Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Reading Room.

Netriri, from Avatar, wearing 3-D glasses anaglyph

The blockbuster 3-D movie Avatar has nine Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture. That’s more Oscar nominations than any 3-D movie in cinematic history.

As a tribute, I made this picture of Neytiri, the blue alien Pochahontas lady, wearing a very stylish pair of horn-rimmed 3-D glasses.

Three Graces scuplture by Juchtzer, anaglyph photo by kiwizone

The three graces were goddesses in Greek mythology, in charge of engendering beauty, charm, and joy. This lovely neoclassical porcelain by Christian Juchtzer resides in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. The anaglyph photo is by John Wattie of Auckland, New Zealand, who also has many other cool 3-D photos in his “kiwizone” Flickr gallery.
